Jay-Z scores 13th U.S number one album (only The Beatles have more)
With his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z extended his lead as the solo artist with the most number one albums in U.S chart history.
His 13th chart-topper to date, Jay-Z shifted 527,000 copies in the first week of the album that had already been given away for free to 1 million people prior, following a Samsung smartphone app promotional tie-in.
The feat means that the LP, which received mixed reviews from critics, is the second fastest-selling album of 2013 (behind Justin Timberlake) and helps Jay-Z on his way to breaking The Beatles’ record of the most number one albums ever (they bagged 19).
Magna Carta Holy Grail is now now and can be streamed here.
