
Jamal Edwards died of cardiac arrhythmia after using cocaine, coroner concludes
A coroner has concluded that Jamal Edwards' cardiac arrhythmia was caused by cocaine use when he died aged 31 in February.
Back in February Jamal Edwards died aged 31, with his mum Brenda stating that it was after a "sudden illness". On socials in June, Brenda Edwards shared an update, revealing that she "sadly learned that the cause of Jamal's devastating passing was due to cardiac arrhythmia caused by having taken recreational drugs".
BBC reports that assistant coroner Ivor Collett revealed that evidence of cocaine was found in Edwards' body, and caused the cardiac arrhythmia. A toxicology report confirmed evidence of cocaine use as well as the presence of alcohol.
In May it was announced that Edwards will be honoured with this year's Music Industry Trusts Award (MITS) in recognition of his contributions to the music industry. The award will be presented to Edwards' family in November during a gala ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
Edwards' family launched The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust in March to "support those causes that mattered most to Jamal". The trust will focus on combatting homelessness, providing people with mental health support, and teaching young people essential life skills.
