Jack White's Third Man Records to reissue Johnny Cash & more
Jack White is so hell bent on preserving the past that he’s taking it upon himself to do the job with his Third Man record label.
Previously, the Third Man imprint teamed up with the blues label Document Records to reissue the likes of Charlie Patton, Blind Willie McTell and the Mississippi Sheiks. Now, according to CoS, White’s label is working with Sun Records to reissue 7″ singles from Johnny Cash (1956′s ‘Get Rhythm’/‘I Walk The Line’), Rufus Thomas (1953′s ‘Bear Cat’/‘Walking in the Rain’), and The Prisonaires (1953′s ‘Baby Please’/‘Just Walkin’ in the Rain’).
Third Man say on their website, where the records are available to pre-order, “each release remains faithful to its original issue on Sun, replicating the classic logo and label design coupled with a striking Sun company sleeve that dutifully employs the rooster Sam Philips lamented losing as labels switched from 78′s to 45′s.”
The label also writes that “this will be an ongoing partnership between Sun and Third Man and future releases are already in the works.”
