Independent Label Market takes over Soho
The first Independent Label Market took over Soho’s Berwick Street on Saturday, with some of the country’s best record labels in attendance.
Domino’s Laurence Bell and Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde were amongst the label owners hawking their wares from makeshift stalls, while Soho’s regular fruit and veg men looked on somewhat bemused.
Meanwhile XL’s Richard Russell took bids for a ‘Record Label Starter Kit’, which included the masters to an as-yet unheard album Russell made in Ethiopia. The kit was apparently bought by Angular – which seems like a bit of a cheat, but there we are.
Many labels had rare or exclusive vinyl on offer, while other stalls boasted LPs at little more than cost price. TLOBF was particularly taken with Merok’s Winona Ryder-embellished t-shirts.
There are now plans for the Market, which was run by Angular’s Joe Daniels, to expand into other cities across the UK.
