Ill Fit Recordings announce debut release: The Forest & The Trees
We are super psyched this morning to announce the release of “To The Forest”, the debut offering from Swedish husband-wife duo The Forest & The Trees. The single, released digitally on April 19th is the first taster from Ill Fit Recordings – a joint venture between ourselves and Something In Construction Records (responsible for Memory Tapes, Air France and Loney Dear – to name just a few).
The Forest & The Trees are Joel and Linnea Edin; they live in marital bliss in their apartment just outside of Stockholm, Sweden where they sleep, eat and create spectacularly joyous pop music. Formed from the ashes of The Tupelo Honeys – a duo consisting of Joel and his sister – Joel and Linnea began writing music together whilst recording a Christmas CD-R for their friends and family. The music clicked straight away and coupled with Joel’s effortless ability to write heartbreaking harmonies and simplistic pop hooks, it has spurred the duo on and has led them to create some of the most bittersweet, romantic music we’ve heard in a very long time.
“To The Forest (I Need Some Peace)” is a technicolor burst of Swedish Winter sunshine. An escalating chorus that spirals into a euphoric high, awash with shuffling drums, tinkling keys and luscious harmonies. Featuring David Lindvall (bass) and Ola Hultgren (drums) from fellow Stockholm residents Loney Dear – “To The Forest” is pop perfection.
Stream the single in full below. It’ll be available to buy on iTunes on April 19th. The Forest & The Trees self-titled debut album will be released on May 10th, available on CD and digital.
As an extra treat, we asked one of our favourite bands – another boy/girl duo – Victoria & Jacob to remix “To The Forest”. Download their reinterpretation below – they’ve completely reconstructed the track into a techno/dub-step orgy whilst keeping the doe-eyed charm of the original intact.
