Iggy Pop pays tribute to David Bowie in two-hour special
Iggy Pop dedicated his BBC Radio 6 Music show to David Bowie last night, playing two full hours of hits and rarities while discussing his relationship with the Starman.
The show is part of a wider BBC tribute, and saw Pop's Iggy Confidential segment turned into a celebration of Bowie's music.
“This was recorded at Cherokee Studios," said Pop ahead of playing "Wild Is The Wind". "[It] was just a very typical, good old solid rock'n'roll studio owned by some guy who was connected to some guy who always had a mountain of drugs. And there were people with hair too long for their bodies coming and going in weird cars. And strange girlfriends.”
"The way I chose them was from memory," Pop added of his track choices. "I took out a piece of paper and a pen and closed my eyes and just remembered what I liked at different times… I'm weighing things that are a little more low on the totem pole, but not obscure."
The tracklist features songs throughout from Bowie's career, including "I Can't Give Everything Away" from final record Blackstar. Pop opened with "Boys Keep Swinging" and finished with "Warszawa" from '77 LP Low.
