Halsey says she was "hit twice" with rubber bullets and shrapnel during George Floyd protest
Halsey revealed that while protesting the death of George Floyd in LA on Saturday (30 May) she was "hit twice" with rubber bullets and shrapnel.
On Saturday (30 May), Halsey joined protestors in LA marching for the death of George Floyd, who was killed while being detained by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on 25 May.
Halsey shared parts of the protest on her Instagram story. In a now-deleted post, Halsey wrote, "we were peaceful hands up not moving not breaching the line. They opened fire of rubber bullets and tear gas multiple times on us. Citizens who were not provoking them."
Billboard reports that she then revealed she had also been injured during the protest, writing, "They opened fire multiple times. I was hit twice. Once by pellets and once by shrapnel. We were gassed repeatedly for hours."
In another deleted post, Stereogum reports that Halsey wrote, "This hit me through layers of fabric and for that, I am extremely privileged. at close range it would have caused serious injury. They were fired at peoples’ faces during peaceful moments of the demonstration. If you’re a follower of mine who ‘stays out of it’ but you’re mad I have a little bruise for doing nothing unlawful, than consider you ARE on our side. because the reality of what happens to black folks everyday is worse than my bruise. So get involved. Sign. Donate. Share links. Do something."
On Twitter yesterday (31 May), Halsey updated her fans over confusion whether she was detained at the protest, "I WAS NOT ARRESTED. I'm safe. There were ppl I had to get to safety as many of them have VISAs. Myself + many of my peers were shot, gassed + antagonised. The frontline was calm + did not provoke BUT MANY ARE NOT SAFE + MANY ARE IN CUSTODY DONATE TO BAIL ORGS!!!"

Yesterday (31 May), Halsey also shared an update of the protest in Santa Monica on Twitter, "I dont know how to articulate the horrors of today. NG + officers firing rounds into kneeling crowds. We dont have enough medics on the ground on our side. I was treating injuries I am not qualified to. So much blood spilled. If you have med training pls go + standby outskirts."
