Gruff Rhys croons about the benefits of Europe in new song "I Love EU"

22 April 2016, 17:24 | Written by Laurence Day

Gruff Rhys - frontman of Super Furry Animals - has penned a loveletter to the EU, and shared a song detailing his deep love.

The song, called "I Love EU", is a low-key synth ballad with gloriously silly lyrics such as: "When I met you I'd never tasted pasta or baguettes / I'd never heard the golden call of castanets..."

Explaining the track, Rhys writes in The Guardian at length. "As a writer of dumb rhymes, this song is my meagre contribution," he writes towards the end. "I’d love my kids to continue to experience the full diversity of Europe. The problem for any golden age is to recognise itself. Time usually does the trick, unfortunately we’ve only got till 23 June. I Love EU."

The UK's EU Referendum takes place on 23 June, and you should make sure you're registered to vote by 7 June. Find out more about the Referendum.
