Google to block funds of illegal downloading websites
Google are said to be in talks with several payment companies to block the transactions of illegal download websites.
The search engine giants are being pressured by the RIAA (Recording Industry Of America) to remove around 10 million links to illegal sharing of music.
While Google are not legally obliged to remove the links, they do, however, have to respond – and it would be damaging for the company’s image for them to publicly refuse.
And while they still display these links, the company are said to be in talks with the likes of Visa, Mastercard and PayPal to block funds coming in to such websites.
MusicWeek say this is a similar tactic as used on WikiLeaks in 2011.
