Gig photographer annoys crowd, band speak out in his defence
The pains of being a live music photographer. You’re just there doing your job and everywhere you choose to stand seems to irritate a different punter in the crowd. Well, this London-based cameraman really agitated one audience member during a recent show at The Garage, who proceeded to upload the entire thing to Youtube with the title “How not to be a photographer at a gig”.
Displaying the offender’s seemingly intrusive antics, the clip has now gone viral, attracting scorn for the photographer in question. But that’s where the twist comes in, with the band playing that night jumping to the man’s defence.
“We would like to say that asked us beforehand whether we minded if he got right in there, using flash and getting on stage, we said not at all,” they wrote in a Youtube comment.
“Most of us in the band have been gigging and worked in live music for over 15 years and have seen countless flat, boring photos. Some of you may not agree with this style but the results are fantastic. Who is and what right does he have to say how a photographer should behave?”
