Free copies of Jay-Z's upcoming album not eligible for UK Charts

Jay-Z announced earlier this week that his new record will drop on July, with 1 million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail given away free to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users. Now it turns out that those free copies will not count towards the UK Official Charts.
It was previously thought that it would go Platinum automatically because of the Samsung giveaway, with the company paying $5 for each of the one million copies.
But now a spokesperson from the Official Charts company has explained: ”Music which consumers receive free of charge, either as physical releases or downloads, have never counted towards the Official Charts.”
