Frankie & The Heartstrings Play Book Launch
Frankie & The Heartstrings will play live at the launch for NO REDEMPTION THE 1984–85 MINERS’ STRIKE IN THE DURHAM COALFIELD, a book with photographs by Keith Pattison and words by David Peace. The book will be published on 1 July 2010 by Flambard Press.
The Sunderland band have featured Keith Pattison’s images from the Strike of 1984-85 on two of their vinyl releases – their limited edition live 10” EP 12.09.09 and 7” single Tender / Want You Back.
A bit of history for those of you who might be too young… Keith Pattison was commissioned by Sunderland’s Artists’ Agency to photograph the strike in Easington Colliery for one month. He stayed there on and off for eight, till the strike ended in March ’85, working behind the lines to record events from the miners’ point of view.
Many of the photographs in NO REDEMPTION will be exhibited at Kings Gallery, Kings Place, Kings Cross, London from 28 January till 5 March 2011.
The event will take place at Easington Social Welfare Centre, Seaside Lane South Back, Easington Colliery with readings by Libby Davidson, Trevor Fox and David Peace and music by Frankie from 7.30pm on 3rd July.
All proceeds from this event go to Easington Welfare Centre. Tickets on sale at Easington Welfare Centre.
