Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon & Built to Spill play Oklahoma tornado benefit concert
A charity concert will be held next month to raise funds to help those affected by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma.
Dubbed Rock for Oklahoma, the initial line-up has just been announced with natives The Flaming Lips set to top the bill alongside Kings of Leon. Also scheduled to perform at the event at Built to Spill and Jackson Browne.
Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne rather profoundly summed up his decision to play the event, speaking to Tulsa World:
“Shakespeare said ‘It is not enough to help the needy up, but to support them after. In our small way we are trying to not just be here at the moment of immediate need, but to stay and help with the rebuilding. After all, this is our home and they are us and we are them.”
Rock for Oklahoma will be held on 23 July. Tickets go on sale Friday.
