Festival drops A$AP Rocky from line-up following allegations of assault
Toronto’s YorkFest have pulled Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky from their upcoming bill following the hip-hop star’s recent brush with the law for slapping a female fan at Jay Z’s Made in America festival earlier this month.
Celeb gossip site, TMZ previously reported that the incident occurred during A$AP’s Saturday night set at the Philadelphia event. The alleged attack took place when Rocky entered the crowd mid-set, with the rapper landing a “open-hand slap” to the face of an unnamed spectator.
Now, as Pitchfork note, the city’s York University – where the fest will be held – have deemed the rapper unsuitable for the event. ”The York Federation of Students Board of Directors learned of allegations of an assault against a woman that are currently before a U.S. court,” a statement reads.
A similar incident occurred in Sydney back in July, but no arrests were made.
A$AP Rocky was also in the news recently for alleged homophobic behaviour towards basketball player Jason Collins, accusations he has since apologised for and denied.
