Facebook is trialling ticket sales direct on event pages
Facebook are currently trialling a new feature which will allows users to purchase tickets directly on event pages.
The service, a 'Buy Tickets' button, is currently only available in San Francisco Bay Area in California and it seems they're giving the very limited run a trial to test logistical woes. For now, there are now paper or electronic tickets when bought on Facebook - tickets will have be picked up at Will Call windows.
Speaking to Buzzfeed, a representative said that the company is currently forging partnerships "with a small group of independent venues, artists and event promoters" to help make this new feature work.
Although Facebook are providing the means to buy tickets, "fulfilment" will be handled by third parties - although you will receive a confirmation from Facebook when tickets are bought.
Facebook will also not be taking a cut of the ticket price.
As well as this new ticketing move, Facebook looks to do battle with Twitter's Periscope service by offering live streaming directly in feeds. Again, this is a limited trial, but offers a glimpse into the companies plans for the future.
