Enya announces first album in seven years, Dark Sky Island
Pioneering Irish artist Enya has announced details of a new album called Dark Sky Island, and has shared lead single "Echoes In Rain".
Characteristically massive and textural, the track boasts pizzicato strings, choirs, swooping synths, and luscious harmonies. The award-winning singer/songwriter has collaborated with the rest of her creative "triumvirate" - namely producer/engineer Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan - once more. The record has been in production since early 2012, and is inspired by Roma's "work on a series of poetry books themed around islands and specifically the island of Sark’s decision to be designated as a dark sky island."
Speaking about the record, Enya says: “This album has a theme of journeys. Journeys to the island; through the length of a lifetime; through history, through emotions; and journeys across great oceans. So although it’s not a ‘themed’ album, as such, we nevertheless have an underlying connection between songs.”
This is Enya's first record since 2008's Christmas-ish album And Winter Came..., and her first 'proper' record in a decade.
Dark Sky Island is released 20 November.
