Emily Eavis reveals organisers are "rolling two festivals together" for Glastonbury 2021
Glastonbury's Emily Eavis has revealed that next year's event will see organisers "rolling two festivals together".
The 50th anniversary of the iconic festival was due to take place this weekend, but organisers had to call off the 2020 event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on Lauren Laverne's BBC Radio 6 Music show today (25 June), Eavis said, "Having to cancel was quite gutting. But the first year back after what we've been through will be the most amazing party."
Eavis added, "We all need it, the public need it, we all need that kind of connection. We need to be together. Being forced to be in lockdown and everything we've all gone through together has made those things all the more precious."
The Glastonbury co-organiser also revealed there's some surprises in store for next summer's festival, "Because we're rolling two festivals together, we've got a hell of a lot of surprises that we were planning for the 50th and I think we're going to try and get those things going for next year."
"Logistically it's a little bit complicated because we'd already pencilled in many, many of the acts for 2021," continued Eavis. "So we're trying to work out how much we can fit into next year."
Eavis also said she hopes they can get Paul McCartney to headline next year's event, seeing as he was due to headline this weekend's 50th anniversary celebrations.
The BBC are hosting The Glastonbury Experience across their BBC Television, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio and BBC Sounds platforms this weekend, including a pop-up channel on iPlayer for people to watch full sets from previous years of the festival.
