Elvis Costello unveils new b-side "Phonographic Memory"

28 August 2020, 10:26 | Written by Cerys Kenneally

Elvis Costello has shared new song "Phonographic Memory", the b-side to his most recent single "We Are All Cowards Now".

"Phonographic Memory" is the b-side to "We Are All Cowards Now", which landed two weeks ago. The new song won't appear on Costello's forthcoming album Hey Clockface.

A press release states that the track "imagines a post-war ceremony involving an archive recording of the voice of Orson Welles and someone identified only as, 'President Swift'."

Hey Clockface will follow on from Costello's 2018 album Look Now with The Imposters. As well as releasing "We Are All Cowards Now", Costello has shared "Hetty O’Hara Confidential" and "No Flag".

The new LP was recorded between Helsinki, Paris and New York.

"Phonographic Memory" is out now. Elvis Costello's Hey Clockface album will be released via Concord Records on 30 October, and is available to pre-order now.
