Elton John set to play HMV in-store as 37 more shops close
Elton John is rumoured to be preparing a special HMV in-store performance, as the troubled company announce 37 more shops are set to be shut down.
The news of this possible intimate gig comes today as Universal UK’s CEO, David Joseph told the press:
“We’ve got a lot of artist support for HMV. Last week one of our biggest global superstars said why don’t we get a lot of the biggest artists to start doing gigs in HMV, just to turn up and say these are music stores, come and get your music here.”
John’s spokesperson added:
“Elton has always been a big supporter of record shops. He will be doing something with HMV although we cannot confirm what or when that would be.”
It’s also been revealed today that the music chain will axe a further 37 stores, cutting 464 jobs in the process.
These new closures add to the 66 already shut in the UK, as well as all those closed in Ireland also.
