Efterklang announce new record Leaves – The Colour Of Falling, share "Cities Of Glass"

Efterklang have announced a new record called Leaves – The Colour of Falling, and shared its first single "Cities Of Glass".

This new release is made up of the songs and music from Efterklang's opera of the same name, and features big names from the Danish opera scene.

We caught the opera during its initial run last summer in a cold war bunker under the streets of Copenhagen. In our review we said: "Efterklang and company have left us with the most gorgeous, unforgettable scar."

The lyrics for Leaves - The Colour of Falling are written by poet Ursula Andkjær Olsen, and were set to music by the band and composer Karsten Fundal. It's been recorded by Francesco Donadello, with Michael Bojesen conducting.

“We wanted to break down the conventions of opera as a genre," says Fundal. "The result is a song cycle about a cult located beneath the ground while the earth might be experiencing its downfall above ground. It’s about loss - loss of identity, loss of love and loss of life itself. We wanted to create an opera for the mood you’re put in when you on a beautiful autumn day see how a brown leaf falls from a tree in the garden - the beautiful swaying fall signifying that everything will perish.”

Efterklang have announced that they will be touring the show with its original cast early next year - including a London show at the Barbican on 9 March 2017. Find out more.

Leaves – The Colour of Falling is out 4 November via Tambourhinoceros.
