Ed Sheeran has been crowned as the UK's artist of the decade by the Official Charts Company.

Alongside earning his title as the UK’s Official Number One Artist of the Decade, the Official Charts Company also presented the singer/songwriter with the Official Chart Record Breaker Award.

The Official Chart Record Breaker Award was presented to Sheeran following his success with the most number ones on the Official Singles and Albums Charts from 2010-2019, as well as for spending the most weeks at number one across the decade.

Sheeran has achieved 12 number ones from 2010-2019, and has spent a total of 79 weeks at the top of the Singles and Albums Charts across the decade.

There have only been two Official Chart Record Breaker Awards presented previously - one to Justin Bieber for holding the top three positions in the Official Singles Chart simultaneously, and one to Paul McCartney for achieving 22 number one albums across his career.

Sheeran said of the award, "Thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the past 10 years. Especially my amazing fans. Here’s to the next 10!"

His first number one single in the UK Official Singles Chart was 2014's "Sing". His most recent chart-topping single was September's "Take Me Back To London" featuring Stormzy.

Sheeran's 2017 hit "Shape Of You" was also named the biggest track of the 2010s, having spent 14 weeks at number one and selling over 4.5million copies.

He's also the first artist to spend over 1,000 weeks in the Top 75 in the smallest amount of time. Sheeran achieved this figure across eight years, while Rihanna reached the same amount across 11 years. Elvis Presley took 20 years to achieve the same number, and Cliff Richard took three decades.

Last month Ed Sheeran featured alongside Burna Boy on Stormzy's latest single "Own It".
