Echo Lake man lends support to under-threat Birmingham venue
Echo Lake’s Thom Hill has spoken out in support of a Birmingham venue under threat of being closed down.
The venue in question, The Hare and Hounds, could be shut after planning permission was applied for to build apartments on the site.
Hill wrote on Facebook:
“The Hare and Hounds, the leading venue for showcasing independent music in my hometown of Birmingham is under threat. We were lucky enough to finally headline this venue on our recent UK tour and it’s such a great place.
This is sadly another case of a venue being ruined by people who want to build apartments and live in a fun, exciting and vibrant part of the city but then don’t like the venue, the regulars and the bands it attracts from all over the world that help make it a fun, vibrant and exciting place to live.
It takes one asshole to ruin a venue and unfortunately it takes thousands of signatures to fight back, so please take 30 seconds to sign this.
I saw a lot of great bands here when I was growing up and as a band we have a lot of great memories here.
There are plenty of unused spaces in Birmingham to build new apartments, it’s time the council started thinking more ambitiously rather than suffocating it’s most exciting communities…. as it always has done.
Please sign and share. Even if you are reading this from the other side of the world, If you are a fan of Echo Lake then you are a fan of independent music and know the importance of every city in the world having a venue like this.
Thanks as ever and much love
Thom x”
