Drake, St. Vincent, Elton John, Josh Homme, Pharrell and more to host Apple Music radio shows
A whole heap of artists have been confirmed to be hosting radio shows for Apple Music, the entertainment giant's upcoming streaming wing, including Drake, St. Vincent and Disclosure.
The radio station, named Beats 1, will also feature a Dr. Dre segment titled The Pharmacy, and Elton John's Rocket Hour. Other musicians recently confirmed include Pharrell, Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age and Jaden Smith. It's currently unknown if these are one-off shows or regular stints.
Ebro Darden and Julie Adenuga are set to join Zane Lowe as regular weekday anchors.
For more detail on Beats 1 and what Apple are aiming to do with the service, head to The New York Times and read their in-depth feature; one interesting excerpt about programming says: "To keep Beats 1 sounding fresh around the world, the station will alternate one- and two-hour programming blocks by established broadcasters with those by musicians and celebrities, who will host and plan the shows themselves."
Recently Beggar's group - 4AD, Young Turks, XL Recordings, Matador and Rough Trade - and Merlin signed up to strike a last-minute deal with Apple Music after Taylor Swift's public Tumblrburst decrying the no-payment of artists during free trials.
Apple Music will launch on 30 June.
In related news, Lowe - poached from BBC Radio 1 earlier this year - will chat to Eminem for his first Beats 1 interview.
