'Ding Dong!' anti-Thatcher campaign currently in Top 3
‘Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead’ from The Wizard Of Oz has entered the UK top three following a protest campaign sparked by the death of Margaret Thatcher.
The track, performed by the cast of the 1939 film and only 56 seconds in length, has gone from tenth place to third position in a matter of days as sales continue to increase. As well as this, it also currently sits at top spot of the iTunes chart and number one in the Amazon MP3 chart also.
Many have blamed media, and particularly mainstream news, coverage for the song’s rising sales. Meanwhile, the BBC are in crisis talks over whether to play the track and if they should address the issue on air this Sunday, when the official chart countdown is announced.
Many musicians have spoken out in the past few days about the reign of the former Prime Minister, including Chumbawamba and Morrissey, twice.
