Alan Myers, the drummed best known for his work with New Wave icons Devo, has passed away after losing his battle with cancer on Monday (24 June).
Myers’ death has been confirmed in a Facebook post by saxophonist Ralph Carney, with fellow Devo members coming out to honour the sticksman, who has been described as the band’s “third and most prominent drummer”, with their words.
“A lot of people think that it’s a drum machine on ‘Whip It’,” current Devo drummer Josh Fleese told SPIN back in 2010. “But that’s Alan Myers.”
Meanwhile, Devo co-founder Gerald Casale offered his tribute by writing: “Alan, you were the best – a human metronome and then some.”
