David Bowie beaten to U.S number one spot by Bon Jovi
David Bowie has been beaten in the race for this week’s U.S number one album, what would have be Bowie’s first in his entire career.
The singer, who released The Next Day last week, was pipped to the post by Bon Jovi’s latest effort What About Now.
What About Now sold 96,000 copies, while Bowie shifted just under that with 85,000 records sold (short of the 90,000 estimate).
As unlikely as it may seem, Bowie has still never had a #1 album in the U.S. The legendary musician has only achieved a career-high of #3 (with Station To Station in 1976) while his last U.S Top 10 appearance came in 1983 with #4 album Let’s Dance.
The Next Day did, however, reach top spot in the UK.
