Daft Punk Colbert Report cancellation seems to be a PR stunt
Earlier this week, Daft Punk were scheduled to make a very rare TV appearance on the U.S’s The Colbert Report, only to pull out at the last minute. The excuse given was said to be contractual issues with MTV, but now doubts are being raised over this.
As Pitchfork note, suspicions were raised when it emerged that Robin Thicke (who replaced the French electronic duo at supposedly late notice) recorded his live segment for the show days earlier. Perhaps they just used footage they were going to save for a later episode? Perhaps, but that doesn’t explain how Thicke references Daft Punk’s no-show.
Rumours have since been circulating that the whole thing was a stunt to leak the announcement of the pair performing live at the MTV VMAs, or it could have actually just been a pre-caution for a possible cancellation – sources say that the booking was in doubt for weeks ahead.
Either way, Daft Punk’s alleged upcoming appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards has still not been official confirmed.
