Courtney Barnett has shared a new single "Everybody Here Hates You"
Courtney Barnett premiered new single, "Everybody Here Hates You", on Triple J yesterday (7 April).
"Everybody Here Hates You" is the first new music from Courtney Barnett since last year's Tell Me How You Really Feel record.
Last year she also shared a standalone single "Small Talk", which will be released alongside "Everybody Here Hates You" for a 7" Record Store Day release on 13 April with artwork made by Barnett.
Triple J's Richard Kingsmill premiered the new single on his radio show yesterday (7 April).
Speaking about the new single, Barnett said, "Basically the song is about some sort of social anxiety that then morphs into paranoia, and a level of sadness and depression, like when you think a haircut will help you, or a clean meal will cleanse you, you know, as if all these things will make you feel better, but really nothing is gonna fix you, so you just kinda have to tell everyone that it's all ok so they don't worry."
Barnett added, "But, it's also tongue in cheek y'know, if my friend said to me, "I think everybody here hates me", i'd say "nah, it's only in your head, and everybody's thinking the same thing. Everyone's too busy thinking about themselves to actually worry about what you or I are doing". And obviously I was listening to a little bit of Jeff Buckley when I came up with that title."
