Coachella launches initiative to minimise assault and harassment at this year's event
Coachella has announced a new initiative called Every One that aims to minimise, and hopefully prevent, harassment and assault at the California festival.
Having just announced its 2019 lineup, Coachella has also brought in a new project that aims to keep assault at the festival to a minimum.
In 2018 Pitchfork reported that Coachella experienced widespread sexual misconduct, with 54 women coming forward to Teen Vogue with their experiences.
To minimise, and hopefully prevent the same from happening at this year's extravaganza, Coachella has launched Every One. The site states, "We are taking deliberate steps to develop a festival culture that is safe and inclusive for everyone. Persons of any gender identity or expression, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, age or ability are welcome at Coachella."
The statement adds, "Along with the Code of Conduct, Coachella will NOT tolerate any form of assault or harassment, be it sexual, physical or verbal. Anyone found to be in violation of this policy is subject to immediate removal from the festival site and law enforcement may be notified. The offender’s Festival Wristband may be revoked and no refund will be issued."
Every One will minimise assault and harrassment by deploying "Trained Safety Ambassadors throughout the festival grounds to facilitate access to care services for anyone in distress." There will also be tens for Every One, which will be "staffed with trained counselors for anyone that needs extra support or a quiet moment away."
