Chvrches, Karin Park & more set for Pussy Riot gig in London
The likes of Chvrches, Karin Park, Au Palais and more will mark the one year anniversary since Pussy Riot’s infamous ‘punk prayer’ in Moscow with a London gig.
Last year, three members of the punk band were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and were sentenced to two years in jail following the performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The song requested that the Virgin Mary drive Russian president Vladimir Putin from power.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22 (pictured above), Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, have been named prisoners of conscience by Amnesty International. They have become a cause celebre since their incarceration, with musicians including Madonna and Paul McCartney voicing their support.
This non-profit even, held at London’s Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen, will take place on Sunday 24 February. Tickets can be found here, with info available on the Facebook event page.
