Cassette Store Day has confirmed that it will return later this year. It will take place on 22 October, and mark the third year of the celebration of tape and music.
Cassette Store Day, originally founded in 2013 by Suplex, Kissability and Sexbeat, grew ever bigger last year with Burger Records taking the reins of the shenanigans across the pond.
Building on those foundations, this year sees Rice Is Nice (Australia), Arch Hill (New Zealand) and Mansions and Millions (Germany) also all joining in. Mansions and Millions have confirmed that they will be teaming up with Späti Palace as well.
Jen Long, the co-founder of Kissability, said of the 2015 celebrations:
“Cassette tapes aren’t just a format, they’re a culture, and cassette culture is as much about collaboration as doing it yourself. This year we’ve gone even further to try and include as many tape fans around the world. We want as many people as possible to be able to get involved and put out a tape, put on a gig or event, or get hold of that release they really want.”
Burger Records added:
“The snowball that is Cassette Store Day rolls into 2015 bigger, better and badder than ever before!!! When we're done spreading the good word of our fave format no one will ever ask "why cassettes?" again!!! BURGER BELIEVE THAT!!!”
For the first time ever, labels will be able to offer their releases online on Cassette Store Day itself rather than a week later.
Kissability's Long went on to explain the reasoning:
"While we still want as many stores as possible involved, we felt there was too much burden on understaffed shops to order from the release list and smaller labels were being left out. We also felt that fans in more remote areas were excluded from the celebrations if they didn’t have a store in their area. Hopefully this way we can include everyone for the best Cassette Store Day yet.”
Applications for stores/events organisers/labels wanting to take part in Cassette Store Day 2015 will have from 11 July to 1 September.
