Burzum's Varg Vikernes released of 'massacre' charges, faces breach of anti-racism laws
Notorious Norwegian black metal musician, Varg Vikernes has been released by French police following an arrest on suspicion of “plotting a massacre” earlier this week.
The guitarist, best known for his project Burzum, was seized along with his wife by police on Monday (16 July) at his farm home in Salon-la Tour, after the pair had reportedly bought large amounts of weaponry and ammunition.
But now, Norway’s news source NRK are reporting that both have been let go – although Varg could still face charges for breaching anti-racism laws.
Vikernes had recently brought attention to himself after posting an anti-Semitic message on his blog last year, writing: “The final solution to this problem is not to kill anyone, but to raise our children with European ideals and values, and a European world view, and make sure that Christianity dies out when our coward parent generation dies out.”
He was previously sentenced to 21 years in prison back in 1994 for murdering fellow Mayhem member Øystein ‘Euronymous’ Aarseth. Vikernes was released from jail in 2009 after serving 15 years of his sentence.
