Burial opens up about Rival Dealer EP, says it has an “anti-bullying” message
Burial recently released a new EP in the form of Rival Dealer, with some critics commenting on his sexuality and sampling of a speech by transgender filmmaker Lana Wachowski. Now, the elusive electronic musician has himself spoken about the message he wishes to convey on the release.
“I put my heart into the new EP, I hope someone likes it,” he said in a message to Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 6 Music. “I wanted the tunes to be anti-bullying tunes that could maybe help someone to believe in themselves, to not be afraid, and to not give up, and to know that someone out there cares and is looking out for them. So it’s like an angel’s spell to protect them against the unkind people, the dark times, and the self-doubts.”
Rival Dealer features three songs: the title-track, “Hider” and “Come Down To Us”. You can listen to the trio of new cuts beneath or download them here.
