Folk legend Bob Dylan follows his recent induction into the American Academy of Arts with a nomination for a Légion d’Honneur, the highest decoration in France.
Dylan is set to be judged by a council headed by grand chancellor Jean-Louis Georgelin, but is said to be likely to receive the top honour of Chevalier – the French equivalent of a Knight.
The musician’s potential entry was previously surrounded with controversy, say Reuters, due to Dylan’s noted “marijuana use and opposition to the Vietnam War”.
Georgelin has written an open letter calling the musician an “exceptional artist” and “tremendous singer and great poet”.
