Billy Bragg to recieve 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' Award
The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has named Billy Bragg as winner of their annual ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ award.
The non-profit-making trade organisation for independent record companies and distributors in the UK holds an awards ceremony every year to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the world of independent music.
It’s been thirty years since Bragg’s debut album Life’s A Riot but the Essex-born political songwriter and left-wing activist has still remained a unique figure at the forefront of British music, with his twelfth studio album Tooth and Nail dropping earlier this year.
Bragg said: ”I was inspired by punk rock, not just by the music but by the DIY ethos that drove the scene. Over the years I’ve held onto that spirit by working with labels whose commitment to independence has offered me greater control of my output.
“Therefore, to be recognised by AIM as an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to music is a great honour”
The awards ceremony will be held on September 3 at The Brewery in Clerkenwell, London.
