Billy Bragg to give John Peel Lecture at 2012 Radio Festival
Billy Bragg is set to host a John Peel lecture at this year’s Radio Festival in Salford.
The folk singer and political activist will give the keynote speech on 12 November, following on from last year’s inaugural speaker, Pete Townshend.
The talk will focus on the role of the mainstream media and how it can take tips from pirate radio of old. The lecture will also be followed by a Q&A session.
Billy Bragg said the following:
“John Peel was always hugely supportive of artists like myself who had something to say. Encouraged by a mushroom biryani, he gave me my first break in radio and I am delighted to be asked to speak at an event in his honour.”
The Radio Festival will be held between 12-14 November at The Lowry, Salford Quays.
