Best Coast sign to Wichita, debut album due in August
Wichita Recordings have just announced the signing of Californian blog-starlets Best Coast and the release of their debut album Crazy For You - out 2 August.
None of the songs on Crazy for You have been previously released on the earlier 7-inches. For the album’s sessions, singer Bethany Cosentino brought in a collection of demos she had never sent to her musical partner Bobb Bruno. “I wanted the record to be something completely fresh and new,” says Cosentino. “I just felt like my first record needed to be really special.”
We’ve heard the album here at TLOBF and can safely say it’s every bit as good as you’d hope it would be. A complete step up production wise from the lo-fi nature of the 7″ singles, with opening track and lead-off single ‘Boyfriend’ already a strong contender for song of the year. Yup, that good.
The LP was recorded at Black Iris, a studio in LA’s Echo Park neighbourhood, and produced by Lewis Pesacov of the bands Fool’s Gold and Foreign Born.
Best Coast return to Europe in July and headline London’s Cargo on album release day.
