Ben Frost to score and direct stage adaptation of Iain Banks novel 'The Wasp Factory'
Experimental composer and producer Ben Frost is set to direct and score the stage adaptation of The Wasp Factory, the 1984 novel by the late author Iain Banks.
The novel detailing a sometimes violent account by a troubled teenager growing up on a remote Scottish island – is set to be performed in Austria, Germany and the UK. The audacious piece of literature is seemingly a favourite of Australian-born Frost, who will provide both visual directions and the aural vision.
Frost has prior experience in composing for theatre, having provided the soundtrack of a number of contemporary dance pieces and worked with British theatre director David Pountney.
The Wasp Factory will play at Austria’s Bregenz Festival from 1-3 August, then Berlin’s HAU Theatre from 26-28 September. Its final stop will be a seven-night run at London’s Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre from 2-8 October.
