Bellowhead
Bellowhead, Chris Wood and daughter-mother duo Eliza Carthy & Norma Waterson each took away two trophies from the latest BBC Folk Awards in London last night, with Laura Marling‘s ‘Rambling Man’ missing out in the Best Original Song category.
Popular big band ensemble Bellowhead blasted their way to Best Group and Best Live Act – but frontman Jon Boden missed out on the coveted Folk Singer of the Year award, presented at the end of the evening by Joan Armatrading. That accolade went to the uncompromising songwriter and performer Chris Wood, who added the prize to his Best Original Song gong for ‘Hollow Point’.
Meanwhile Eliza Carthy & Norma Waterson, the latter unable to attend due to ill health, won Best Album for Gift and Best Traditional Track for their take on ‘Poor Wayfaring Stranger’.
