Beach House play Letterman, respond to advert rip-off suggestions
Yesterday, it was suggested widely online that a UK TV advert from Volkswagen featured a song that sounded more-than-a-lot-like Beach House. And indeed, when compared back-to-back, there seemed to be a case for suspicious thought. Especially so now, as the band have confirmed that the exact same ad company had tried to license ‘Take Care’, the very song the commercial’s new soundtrack had been likened to.
The band released this statement:
Hate to have to address this VW ad story during our release week, but an important part of information wasn’t included in the news story. The ad agency actively tried to license “take care” from us for weeks, to which we politely declined. People’s comments/ anger should not be directed towards VW or us. It was the ad agency that made these moves. I hope this also clarifies to fans and non- fans just how “take care” and the vw ad song are related. We will release a proper statement weeks from now when we don’t have more interesting things to do/ talk about.
After the online storm died down a bit though, the dream-pop group took to Letterman to perform lead track ‘Myth’ from their new album out this week. You can catch a clip of that below:
