BBC say Green Day and Muse “not good enough” to be played on Radio 1
Music Week recently sat down with the two leading heads of music at the BBC, namely Radio 1′s head of music George Ergatoudis and the corporation’s Music policy director Nigel Harding, to discuss changes at the station and its playlist policy.
In the interview, the pair explained the recent omission of both Muse and Green Day, two acts you’d just assume would get airtime due to their size.
“Muse are approaching a crossroads – their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade,” Harding told the publication. “The door remains open to them but we’ll have to think carefully about their next album.”
He continued: ” the last Green Day project simply wasn’t good enough”.
Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher may be dropped also, with Harding stating that the former Oasis man “feels more at home on Radio 2″.
