BBC Radio 4 invites listeners to contribute to new Your Desert Island Discs programme
BBC Radio 4 has launched its new Your Desert Island Discs programme today, which aims to get listeners to share music that has been helping them get through the coronavirus lockdown.
Desert Island Discs has been a pivotal part of BBC Radio 4's schedule since 1942, and today, radio host Lauren Laverne has asked listeners to get in touch to share a piece of music and the story of how it's helping them get through the current global pandemic.
For over 70 years, Desert Island Discs has been hosting a wide range of celebrities and asking them to imagine being a castaway, living an isolated life, and to make a list of eight tracks that they would rely on the keep them going.
Now that isolation is something the UK is experiencing with the current coronavirus lockdown, Laverne has called on listeners to contribute pieces of music that have been helping them maintain hope and happiness during the past few months, and the story behind it. Whether that's a team of key workers and their favourite song while working, or whether it's a listener that's completely on their own at home, Laverne wants to hear the stories of real life isolation.
She says, "At the moment we all feel a little more cast away than we might like to. It seems the perfect time to pass the microphone to our wonderful listeners and invite them to tell us about one special track and why it matters so much to them now. I can’t wait to hear what they come up with."
