Bandcamp expands in-house vinyl pressing service
Bandcamp has expanded its in-house vinyl pressing service to the wider community after trialling it with a selected group of artists and labels in 2019.
The vinyl pressing service first launched in 2019, and saw the company trial its service with a selection of artists and labels, in the hope of reducing financial risk by only producing vinyl once fans' pre-orders reached a target number.
Over the weekend Bandcamp announced plans to expand its in-house service to the wider Bandcamp community. It will now be available to 10,000 more Bandcamp sellers (who have been sent invites), and Bandcamp also plan to send out more invites throughout 2021.
Bandcamp notes that the 2019 trial period for their vinyl service was successful, having completed 50 successful pilot projects that saw 13,000 records send to fans across 65 countries.
The vinyl pressing service requires a minimum of 250 orders to be put into production. The service allows artists and labels to design their own sleeve and pick their own vinyl colour, with Bandcamp pressing, printing, and shipping the vinyl records to fans. There's also no upfront costs, as fans fund the production via pre-orders.
