Band Aid 30 adds Ed Sheeran, Adele and Elbow to star-studded cast
Everyone's favourite sweary philanthropist has confirmed that the long-rumoured 30th anniversary edition of Band Aid charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" will go ahead.
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure intend to record the single on Saturday (15 November), and it will be available for download a week today (17 November).
The pair, who originally spearheaded the campaign in 1984 to raise money for the Ethiopian famine, have re-recorded versions in 1989 and 2004, with the latter being altered to reflect the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region. This year's edition will be altered once more and raise donations to tackle ebola in West Africa.
Artists confirmed so far include: U2's Bono, Adele, Chris Martin of Coldplay ,One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Elbow, Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs, Underworld, Sinead O'Connor, Paloma Faith, Foals and Bastille, who the BBC note "have given up two arena dates to record their contribution." Tracey Emin will provide the cover art while Paul Epworth will produce.
It will cost 99p per download and £4 on CD.
