Are you ready for The Title Sequence?
Take a pinch of Aphex Twin’s piano ballads with beats. Add in a liberal does of factories pressing metal in one corner while conveyer belts of biscuits being coated in waterfalls of chocolate hurtle past. Finally think of a love child born from the unholy matrimony of Jens Lekman and Divine Comedy frontman Neil Hannon. He’s a cute kid, with a beautiful, understated voice, a coy sense of humour and a way with the ladies; but also just a pinch of alienation. Have you got all that?
If you’ve correctly assembled the above you should have The Title Sequence. A London band, making pop songs in the key of Crayola and singing about dinosaurs. ‘Lovers’ is the first single off their debut album (due later this year). It’s a catchy, quirky ballad about a spark of love shared over a well-chosen playlist at some local club night in zone 2 somewhere, and it conjures a lovely lounge-pop feel without ever seeming anachronistic. If you like your influences well and truly blended they may wall a band you want to track down (even if it’s only to get hold of whatever they have been taking).
