A new art installation in Namib desert aims to play Toto's "Africa" for "all eternity"
A Namibian artist has taken Toto's "Africa" to the Namib desert to create a new art installation that aims to play the track "for all eternity".
Max Siedentopf, the Namibian artist behind the installation, has taken "Africa" back to its roots, and created an endless loop of the track, in the middle of the desert.
Consisting of seven white plinths, Siendentopf has placed an MP3 player on the middle one, surrounded by speakers on the other plinths.
The one track on the MP3 player is, of course, Toto's "Africa". Siendentopf said to the BBC, "I wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit "Africa" in Africa."
To achieve the eternal loop, Siedentopf explains solar batteries will help to keep "Toto going for all eternity".
Siedentopf hopes that the track will continue playing for the next 55 million years, "Most parts of the installation were chosen to be as durable as possible, but I'm sure the harsh environment of the desert will devour the installation eventually."
