Lara Somogyi unveils new single, "mirabel"
Experimental harpist Lara Somogyi has released her new single, "mirabel", the latest preview of her upcoming album, a [time] patterned.
"mirabel" follows lead single "sojourn" as the second glimpse into a collection of songs which explore the way that patterns emerge, dissolve, and reform. Speaking about the track, Somogyi explains: “Writing 'mirabel' was a joy for me — the piece began as a series of intuitive harp arpeggios that gradually unfolded into shifting shapes beneath my fingers. As I wrote, the patterns started to feel almost geometric: triangular and tessellated across the harp and electronics, constantly refracting into new rhythmic forms. In contrast, the strings move more circularly — expansive, emotive, and fluid — creating a kind of orbit around the harp’s kaleidoscopic motion."
"Even in the score itself, I wanted the music to feel spatial and sculptural," she continues. "The circular notation and intersecting lines reflect the way I experienced the piece while composing it: patterns folding into one another, rhythms cascading outward, and sound moving in cycles of light and shadow. ‘mirabel’ became, for me, both an architectural study and an emotional one — a whirlwind of texture, motion, and luminous energy.”
a [time] patterned is released on 28 August via Mercury KX
