Lara Somogyi announces second album, a [time] patterned
Harpist Lara Somogyi has announced her second album, a [time] patterned, and shared lead single, "Sojourn".
a [time] patterned follows Somogyi's 2023 debut album, !, and sees her attempt to understand grief following the loss of her father, while examining the way that time feels. "Sojourn", written for harp, strings, and electronics, arrives as the first taster of the collection of songs.
Discussing the song, Somogyi says: "'Sojourn' opens in the in-between; in that first step forward, tracing a quiet shift toward something open and free. It’s not a beginning, even though it was the first piece I wrote for the record. To me, it feels like an opening to the next chapter."
The album, written and produced with collaborator Cyrus Reynolds, is described by Somogyi as a series of “rooms” the listener can move through. It features field recordings – including birdsong from her birthplace of Kauai – alongside string arrangements and experimental textures, with writing inspired by architectural theory and the idea of pattern as structure. It's noted as an expansion of her work, and explores how music reshapes experiences rather than being defined by loss.
