Lana Del Rey leads singalong of "Video Games" after Glastonbury set gets cut short

25 June 2023, 09:25 | Written by Tyler Damara Kelly

Lana Del Rey headlined Glastonbury's The Other stage last night, (24 June), but after arriving on stage 30 minutes late, her set was cut short.

She had been due to appear on stage at 10:30pm, but it wasn’t until 11pm that she actually arrived for her slot – and her hair was still being styled on stage while her performance began.

Due to her late start, Lana ended up going over her allotted performance time, meaning organisers cut off her microphone and stopped the video link to the screens on the stage as Glastonbury has a strict midnight curfew for the large stages

She had previously voiced concerns that she might be forced to finish early, after starting her set 30 minutes late. "I was so fucking late that I am about to rush this set,” she said. "If they cut power, they cut power. I’m super fucking sorry, my hair takes so long to do.”

In a bid to make it up to her fans, Lana stepped down off the stage and greeted festivalgoers in the front row, signing Summertime Sadness with them and signing autographs.

Back in March, there was a backlash when the Glastonbury line-up was announced and revealed there were no female performers headlining the main stage

She hit out at the festival at the time as her own headline slot on The Other Stage didn't get a big promotion. She tweeted at the time: “Well, I’m actually headlining the 2nd stage. But since there was no consideration for announcing that we’ll see”, which led many to fear she would boycott the event as a result.

Del Rey was also met with an apparent technical difficulty during her performance, which forced her to restart the song "White Mustang".

Glastonbury 2023 takes place from 21-25 June at Worthy Farm. Visit glastonburyfestivals.co.uk for more information.
