Lana Del Rey previews song referencing Ethel Cain amid controversy
Lana Del Rey has accused Ethel Cain of making comments about her weight, following speculation in a recent previewed track.
A feud between Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain began earlier this week after Del Rey shared a snippet of an unreleased track featuring the lyrics: "Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post / Think it’s cute reenacting my Chicago pose.” The lines appear to reference a photo Cain posted in 2022 with Lana’s former partner, Jack Donoghue, mimicking a pose Del Rey had previously shared outside Chicago’s Cook County Jail.
In the same preview, Del Rey also sings, “The most famous girl at the Waffle House / I don’t regret it,” a line echoing a New York Times profile headline describing Cain in 2022.
Following online discussion, Lana Del Rey posted a statement on her Instagram stories alleging that Cain had made
“constant comments” about her weight over the past two years, writing: “I found out Ethel Cain has been body-shaming me for years… so this is my formal goodbye.”
Cain has not issued a detailed response but shared a brief Instagram story reading, “Update: Lana Del Rey has blocked Ethel Cain on Instagram.”
